Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. A clean install.
With 27 changes, like most of the "clean installs" ... http://i.imgur.com/pDV2HGp.png
A company without name and address. Sometimes I oversea this information. Sorry. But I expect this in an "About" statement.
Be careful. This is a historical rarity. The software is from 2008, the latest timestamps March 2008, the other files are from 2004 to 2006.
So is the window after start. Old fashioned, too much colors, a programmer at play.

On the lower right side of the screen, there is a tray. From here you can call a new "idea" or a new "reminder" or the "control center".
In a short test, it does what it claims - it was surely a modern software around 2006. Nowadays I expect synchronization with calenders, with other devices.
Have a test, maybe it fits exactly your needs - if you don't use any calender tasks - and it fits into your XP design.
Uninstalled via reboot.

Am I alone in actually preferring an "old fashioned" interface, where you can see at a glance where everything is,over the "modern" minimalistic ribbon where I have to hunt for everything.

Hi all!
A few words from the developer reflecting on some substantial parts of the comments. Thanks all for those.
Cute Reminder did not experience any substantial modifications since 2008 or so, that's correct. It was under quite an active development before that, however, it was never a goal to integrate each and every feature requested by the users, - we wanted to keep it quick and simple while providing most important functions. And the main gauge here was (and is) the own experience from its everyday use throughout more than 10 years already. And yes, some would say it's old, some would call it mature.
Synchronization with other devices and online calendars is not there and won't be there for various reasons, to name a few: (1) there are decent cross-platform solutions for that out there and we do not want to reinvent the wheel; (2) a synchronization would mean storage of user data on an online server and we do not want to keep user data; (3) using third-party online servers and their respective APIs is unreliable as these APIs might be (and in fact were) discontinued at some point and we do not want our users to be exposed to that risk.
And yes, the user interface could be flattened and made pale to look more modern, but it's a matter of taste and many are against that if it becomes too impractical. You can customize many colors in the user interface of Cute Reminder as a relief to the problem.
Now you can blame me for what I'll say, but there is a philosophy behind Cute Reminder and it's quite unique. It postulates (and implements) only three things: (1) make it as easy as possible for a user to create a reminder and also to postpone it; (2) do not fiercely distract a user from what s/he is currently doing when a reminder pops up; and (3) do distract a user if s/he asked for that. Beyond that core, all the rest in Cute Reminder are just additional features including the side panel that many users like (you can use hot keys instead in Professional Edition).
Cute Reminder allows you to create reminders and notes - as many tens if not hundreds of applications do - there is nothing extraordinary about that, and you can blame me again for what I'll say, but the big difference comes from how it does that.
We might give away also Professional (and Enterprise) Edition through GOTD sometime should they deem it to the benefit of you - GOTD users.
