#3, Do Do Re, Conversion to ogg works if the decimal notation of your system uses a decimal point.
At first ik did not work for me to, but then I saw the error in the log about an invalid decimal code "4.97". In Holland we use a comma as decimal separator.
Then I changed my landcode to "English (US)", which uses a point as decimal separator and hey presto! the conversion worked.

Absolute Audio Converter is a nice app that appears to use the ffmpeg libraries to transcode quite a few audio formats [not just the relative few the developer(s) list], as well as audio tracks combined with video... it's major flaw is that you're stuck with the preset output templates [No customization], & those templates might make little -- if any -- sense. A perfect example is .wav output, which includes the standard 48kHz sampling rate, but at a very much unusual 32 bits rather than the *extremely, common standard* 16 bit, or even the up-a-notch 24 bits. *If* your other software will handle it, it will be *extremely* slow to work with &/or convert to something workable.
That said, IF the output templates are a good fit for you -- have what you need -- Absolute Audio Converter is pretty painless to install & use. It's Almost a portable app, & could be converted to one using portable app creator [from the portableapp.com forums], which can relocate the app's 2ndary folder from Docs & Settings \ [UserName] \ Application Data to a portable app folder on your USB stick for example.
My favorite all around audio conversion app is the free, LameXP, though working with video more often I don't need as many input formats as more audio-centric people. Purely FWIW, I also often use AviSynth with the NicAudio, either NicAC3Source or NicDTSSource, Amplify, & Soundout plugins for multi-channel... Amplify(0.90) prevents clipping, while Soundout saves the file as wave64, to overcome the 2GB wav file limit -- it's the only way I've found to always prevent AC3/DTS conversions from clipping [without altering, normalizing files etc], & then I can convert the wav64 to whatever I want/need.

Registration is simple. We have to enter three lines of text into proper form in program (menu Help/Enter "Plus!" version code).
This software CAN ALSO CONVERT VIDEO FILES INTO AUDIO FILES (RIP AUDIO FROM VIDEO) !!! This is the advantage of the Plus! version, which is on today's GAOTD.
I have tested it on a sample *.mp4 file and I have converted it successfully and fast into the *.mp3 file. We can choose one from the the popular MP3 bitrates or choose other audio format (and bitrate for it).
The only disadvantage is that the "Play" button didn't work for me on this file.
Summing up: easy, plug&play and simply working, but somewhat limited software (no CD-Audio extraction support reported).
Thanks to GAOTD.

XP3 - no problems installing or running. (>5)
INSTALLATION: (kinda left out of the original instructions)
-Run program
-Click HELP (lower left)
-Click ABOUT
-Click "Enter Plus Version Key Code.
-Follow the info in the read me or that pop up you probably closed!
It works. Is it the best? .. Probably not. Format factory and several other GAOTD freebies work as well.
It is fast, simple, and easy to use.
You can down size MP3s to smaller files to cram into players and fones with limited space.
I gave up on .WMAs because of DRMs, so I did not have any to test that, but suspect it will not defeat a DRM.
Program gives you NO choice of configuration. No, for example, method of using VRB for MP3s. No choice of destination folder.
Looks STRANGELY like:

It is simple, easy to use and not a bad deal for free, but not for $30

It DOES convert FLAC files.
It would be helpful if you specify a folder and then have it convert all files in that folder -- and even files in sub-folders, automatically generating sub-folder names.
When setting the destination folder, it would be better if you could simply enter a pathname instead of having to walk down the file structure of the computer.
