Maybe I am missing something, I'm not a pro photo editor by any means, but the files/images are all in JPG with a black background.
So how to use them as an overlay? If I remove the black, those with for instance the blue fireworks have a very gradual gradient from black to dark blue. So you have to remove quite aggressively, deleting the 'glow' in the process.
Can't use layer transparency either as the effect will evaporate as well.
Looking at the pictures in the examples, I can't see how to apply it like that. With only the light swirls and orbs showing.
Seems almost as converted PNG (to JPG) files where the transparency has been lost, filled in with black.
Am I missing something??

Still, why not distribute them as PNGs with real transparency, which would make them easier to use intuitively by anyone without any knowledge in any free or commercial graphics software that accepts layers?

Just search and you will find the answer.

The fireworks are 1920 x 1080 res, but not well focused. I suspect the company would have faired better just providing a link to this page where they routinely offer a small sampling of different free overlays. https://eldamar-studio.com/product-category/free/free-photoshop-overlays/
